The Reset Button Returns - Now With Longer Cutscenes

Home : Games : Articles

There are lots of strange happenings in the world of gaming, time for GWN's lovable (if only a little psychotic) game columnist to fire off a few rounds.

You can tell E3 is on the way because the world of gaming news is at critical mass. I didn't make the list for E3 credentials this year as there was an unfortunate delay on my corneal scan. Next year maybe. There may not be a bigger event this year than the release of Metal Gear Solid 4 and the resulting media embargo on reviews.

This isn't the future Snake - this is a representation of how old you'll be when the cutscene finishes.

Konami tried an interesting trick: giving review copies of the game under the conditions that reviewers didn't talk about the only parts people were interested in.  This would be like promising you a date with Playboy's Miss July under the condition you couldn't ever tell any of your friends. It'd be pointless, I assure you.

The main thing Konami was afraid of people talking about were the hour-long cutscenes. First of all, what were they worried about? It's not like PS3 owners have such a wealth of games to choose from that they weren't going to play MGS4. What else were PS3 owners going to do with their time, play Haze?

I object - to making people work like convicts to crank out another Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball.

Since the game's getting a 10+ from every review source, I hear that other gaming franchises are looking into cutscenes. The next installments of Tetris, Madden and Wii Fit will now feature hour-long cutscenes, I can't wait.
