From out of the depths of space there exists a world of entertainment so fantastic, and yet so hidden, that most have only heard or dreamed of its pleasures. Few have actually seen it. Welcome to Planet PMW! You are one of the few who will have the chance to see the world of entertainment that we offer. And it all begins decades in the future with... Tanaka Race to the Future
After a journey through space and time you have reached the planet of Tanaka. Eons into the future on the industrialized planet of Tanaka, a highly advanced society will have developed. Were it not for the dangers and mysteries of the PMW system, they would leave their tiny planet for the vast potential of other worlds. So small a world, and so competitive will this society be, that the people of Tanaka will take even their drive to work seriously. Deadly seriously. Only the fastest and fittest can survive on the streets of the planet's capital, Tanaka City. Every commute isn't just the daily grind to work. No, the entertainment starved and efficient people of Tanaka will make a race out of their most mundane tasks. And to the Victor will go the spoils, and ... a chance to survive.
Tanaka is a 3D race game where "pilots" guide their crafts (vehicles) through the streets of the City of Tanaka in the year 2525.
The "missions" vary in difficulty and objective. Some races are run "against the clock," while others are "Duels" or "Total Carnage" races where you must defeat the other pilots or destroy them to emerge victorious. Yet another type of mission is the "escort" mission where you must guide another vehicle through the mean streets defending and protecting it from all others, until it reaches safety (the finish line). Upon completion of the race, a "pilot" is awarded prize money if they finish in the top three spots. The higher the finish, the greater the award. The awards can then be spent in the "Shop" where pilots purchase and equip their vehicles.
The vehicles are "smart" and highly configurable. Pilots are able to choose from among many different variables such as different type of cars(Stormy X1, Flying Fish, Bomber F20 etc.), engines (hydrogen, plasma, or nuclear etc.), missiles and mines (rolling mine, ZZ rocket, the Seeker etc.) lasers (double laser, multi-laser etc.), and shields (deflectors). These are just a few examples. Literally there will be more than a hundred different vehicle combinations and variables in the game. And of course add on (expansion) disks will be supported down the road.
However, as mentioned above, it should also be noted that the vehicles are "smart". Which means that when you buy weapons you also need to consider "weight" and "drag" on the vehicle etc., as well as cost. The more your car weighs, the slower it will go. As you fire your weapons and the car "lightens", it will go faster because it is lighter. A skilled pilot will know how to choose wisely, balancing weaponry and performance when constructing their vehicles.
The other major aspect of the game is that it's a fantastic "head to head" game over the Internet or a network. Tanaka is set up to handle up to 8 different network players at a time. And while Tanaka was never built as a "network" game, we certainly expect that it will be VERY popular among you net gamers.
