Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor

Once you’re done humiliating yourself, it’s off to colonize the universe at whatever size you want the universe to be.

There is no multiplayer aspect, but then when turn based stratagy is involved developers tend to err on the side that players are not patient enough to make that feasable.

Pink is the universal color of war in the future.

The problem with specifically reviewing a title like this is that it has a very specific player in mind and has adopted an indie quality that has become very popular, but again with very specific players. I can’t stress it enough, if you’re a fan of turn-based strategy and resourse management then you owe it to yourself to pick this up. Unless you’ve been really selfish lately, then you don’t really owe it to yourself, but you should buy it anyway even if you have never played a Galactic Civilization game before.

On the other hand, if you enjoyed the previous iterations of Galactic Civilizations, then I promise you will not be dissapointed by Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor.

Highs
Immense complexity, colorful and differing races, vast amounts of customizable gameplay, the ability to give your leader a silly and embarrassing name. Up to date graphics that improve over previous titles.

Lows
Story is a bit tired, target audience is very specific, can be too much for some players.

Final Verdict
After so many iterations it's impressive that Stardock has maintained their standard of quality in this series. If you're a fan, pick it up. If you like the genre, pick it up. If you're on more of a Total War speed, let this one go.
